Discover the Town of Bridges, Comacchio. Heir of the important commercial Etruscan port of Spina, this Little Venice was in the Middle Ages an important centre of maritime trading and salt manufacturing. Today is still a center of fishing and tourism.
Comacchio still boasts unique, intact architectural features; a town of canals, palaces and monumental bridges, inhabited by people with a strong sense of identity who are proud of their origins.
During the tour of Comacchio we’re going to visit the interesting fish-market (the Pescheria), with its open-air fish market trading on benches of stone and marble. The best views in town are from the Ponte degli Sbirri: on one side the historic Ospedale degli Infermi and on the other the 19th century Palazzo Bellini and the famous Trepponti, the symbol of Comacchio.
Its extraordinary architectural structure links four waterways in a great compositional harmony (five arches, coming from opposite directions, under which the waterways of the city flow down).
During the tour we’re going to enjoy a lunch in a typical downtown restaurant, tasting the flavors of this beautiful village, including the eel wich rules the table in Comacchio, and it is cooked in a thousand ways.
