A car trip from Rome between the suggestive hamlets of Pitigliano, Saturnia and Scansano is a higly reccomended adventure to the depth of Medieval Italy.
The symbol that ties the cities is the tufo or tuff rock. Over the centuries, it has been used by prehistoric civilizations, the Etruscans and those of the Middle Ages to shape the territory, the necropolises, the roads we still see today.
Our first stop is Pitigliano, a beautiful village whose houses are mixed with the rock below and viceversa. This town is the same for centuries: etruscan, roman and medieval marks. We could see maze of narrow streets that follow one another, sometimes alleys so narrow that a person finds it difficult to pass.
Later we drive to Saturnia where you will have the opportunity to swim in one of the most beautiful healty and warm waters of the Country
Finally, in Scansano, we will visit a local wine factory, where you will have the opportunity to try and possibly buy, some excellent Morellino of Scansano wine.
The medieval villages we are going to visit are crowned by an evocative atmosphere that goes back in time, lined park lands and surrounded by archaeological treasures.
